So we had our first rain day, well rainy weekend, well It wasn’t raining so bad that we couldn’t do anything, just shitty enough that we didn’t want too. On day 76 we drove across the state in search of a Walmart, we needed supplies and I was due for an oil change, we needed a pharmacy and an REI as well. Southeastern Utah is vacant. Even finding a place to eat was really difficult. You see a town marked on the map, you drive into it and find out it’s a couple houses and a gas station. By the way check out the cool place we got gas from.
We went in search of civilization. The closest place where people actually live was Grand Junction CO, so back to Colorado we went. Its 2 hours out of the way from our next stop, but it had to be done. We love hiking and being in places where there isn’t a lot of people but when you need things like food being out in the middle of nowhere sucks. We did all of our chores and spent the night at Walmart parking lot after seeing the new Justin Timberlake movie, In Time. It was fun.
Day 77 we drove into Moab UT , our home for the next couple days. We got a hotel cuz it was a big day for football, and waited out the rain. How bout them 49ers, Jets and Giants, Ehhh?!
Day 78. The weather was still shitty. Cloudy with scattered rain and snow showers. The plan was to hit up Canyonlands but due to the weather we went to a local tourist attraction instead. Hole in a rock is a 5000 square foot home carved on the inside of a large red sandstone rock. Pretty cool little house. We took the “12 minute tour.” The rooms were left as there were when the Mrs. Christensen past away in the 70′s. The staff was super bitchy. The rest of the property is loaded with vintage signs and art. Oh and a crappy little “Zoo” (more like mini animal prison). We weren’t aloud to take pictures inside of the house but check out this link for some pics and the story of the place. HERE
From there we drove into Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park to grab some maps to plot out our next 3 days in these parks. It was raining off and on but the parks were still beautiful. The weather for the next 4 days in sunny an 45. We’ll take it! Can’t wait for tomorrow!
Next Stop: Canyonlands and Dead Horse Canyon
