First week, 5 states, 1400 miles, 4 major cities, 2 lakes, 8 souvenir magnets, 4 showers each, 3 campsites, 4 gas tanks, 2 new tires, 1 mirrored polka dotted room, 3 american dialects, 2 camp fires, 2 lake view sunsets, 3 swims, 1 chocolate kingdom, 1 foot long chili hot dog, 1 load of laundry, 6 gallons of water, 1 glass of wine, 2528 pictures, 1 stray dog, zero worries.
Today we woke up at a Walmart in Muskegon MI. Another day of gorgeous weather. We are really lucking out so far. We haven’t had a rainy day yet. Drove south down the coast in search of a campground where we would spend the day relaxing and doing chores before our next big stop: Chicago. we plan on spending 2 days there then a 3rd day in Milwaukee, so we wanted a day to catch up and plan. The first site we found didn’t have a laundry room and the wifi was terrible. Since we needed both of those desperately we decided to try a more expensive option. We located a KOA close by. It was only a few dollars more for the night but the difference in quality was huge. KOA’s are really nice. This one has a pool, solid wifi, clean private room showers, a fully stocked store and even “you pick” blueberry patch. We did some chores then took a swim in the heated pool. It was one of the first times this trip i really relaxed. After our swim we went to a grocery store to get food to cook on the fire tonight. Then we drove to the coast. Lake Michigan is amazing. It’s enormous. We found a beautiful sandy beach, and decided to go in for the second swim of the day. The water was freezing but that’s where my complaints with this lake end. It was probably my favorite part of the trip yet. Nice sandy bottom, no yucky feet, clean fresh water, great view, perfect weather, mmmmmm. We spent a good amount of time swimming and taking in this experience. Then it was back to the campsite for some more chores and relaxation. Around dusk we went back to our beach to watch the sunset over the lake
Dinner time back at KOA. We grilled up some BBQ chicken and mixed veggies over a fire. For dessert, it was smores of course. Duh, it’s still summer.
A nice slow day.
Next stop: Chicago
