Even though we didn’t get much sleep, I woke up this morning in a good mood. How can you wake up in a penthouse suite and not be in a good mood?? But this was quickly followed by a wave of depression, when I realized it was time to pack our things and check out. It was fun to be balla for a night. It made me want a nice apartment SO bad! I want to live in luxury… We had one last deluxe meal at the Mirage and said goodbye to Vegas.
On to our next and last Nevada attraction. Let me tell you, I was more impressed with the Hoover Dam than I thought I would be. Knowing myself, I thought it was going to be one of those really structurally and technically amazing things that I completely under-appreciate. Surprisingly, that was not the case. The size of this dam is just incredible and its construction baffles me. Probably because I know zero about engineering. Nevertheless, I felt a strong appreciation for the effort by thousands of workers in the early 1930s that resulted in such a powerful structure. Good work, men! Unfortunately, as I looked down the height of this massive concrete wall, I was slightly obsessed with thoughts of people jumping off. Must be that Hoover Dam suicide youtube video that was circulating a while back… disturbing.
Directly across from the Dam stands an equally impressive bridge. Walking across this bridge gives a really great view of the damn. It’s cool because from this angle you can see both water levels. From the dam, the arch of the bridge frames the river canyon beautifully. Makes for a good photo op.
So after we had our fill of the Hoover Dam, Ricky drove us back into Nevada, just outside Death Valley. While he drove, I took my daily nap. Honestly, I don’t know what I’m going to do when I have to actually work a full day and I can’t take a 2 hour nap in the back of the van. There might be an adjustment period where Ricky has to drive me around San Francisco so I can get a van nap here and there. Cutting them off cold turkey is gonna send my body into shock. Tonight, we stay at a motel 6… Talk about a downgrade!! But at least we get to watch Mark Walberg’s worst movie in the history of all time- The Lovely Bones. (I heard it’s a good read.. but what a TERRIBLE movie!)
Gnight kids… back to Cali tomorrow!
